Merriam Webster Dictionary is adding over 150 new words to its collegiate dictionary. Planning to combine growing technological and pop culture terms, Webster is going “Millenial.”
If you didn’t think Social Media was taking over, think again. Three new words will be added to the Webster Dictionary and they will make you LOL (laugh out loud). Words like “hashtag,” “selfie,” and “tweeps” are just a few words going to be added. Hashtag, a common Twitter term that means to categorize something on Twitter, will now be next to interesting words like “hassock” which means to kneel on a couch cushion.
Social media is not the only genre getting a shout out, new food items and MTV terms are too. Named after MTV’s hit show Catfish, to “catfish” someone means to set up a person online with a false identity, will be making its debut. The combination of turkey and duck known as “Turducken” will also be making its first appearance along with “pho” and “poutine”.
Stay tune for more crazy words to be added as there are still six more months left in 2014. Let’s see what this holds for future schooling as they teach kids how to properly take a selfie.
